Had the flank backstrap and rump. All were the best versions of those cuts I have ever had. The rump was absolutely amazing and never knew rump could taste like that. It had a great truffle like flavour but is too hard to accurately describe.
Yes the ambience is lovely, yes the service is second to none.But....a great big $59.00 steak on its own plonked in the middle of a plate is not acceptable or inviting to eat. I felt as though I was starring in a Flintstone movie! Please please, just put a couple of green beans or fancy carrots on the plate, anything but a huge steak by itself. Apart from that, a nice experience. Entrees were larger than I expected and very tasty.
Managed to get a table for two without a booking - winning! The service was great, perhaps over attentive - we had 4 people ask how our entree was and 4 people as how our mains were. Garlic prawns entree was a good size, but that's where the portion vs price ended. Squid and pork belly came with about 4 bite size pieces of squid and 3 pork belly squares. The main tortellini came with 2 "king" prawns and five pieces of tortellini. For $57 it really didn't hit the mark. The coral trout was cooked to perfection but also 55 with no sides. A good experience and some lovely fresh food but it wasn't worth the price. I've had the same quality for less than half that price in Perth and will definitely be going back to those places before trying Rockpool again.
I have been here 3 times and I have been underwhelmed each time. It was far too over priced for the meal you get. Each time the service is exceptional but I would have preferred to have a better meal. Nothing left me wanting more and I honestly think I won't be back. For the reputation it has I have been bitterly disappointed and do not feel like I got hardly any value for money. Steaks are average, sides are average, only reasonable meal so far has been the Rankin Cod but for the price it is not worth it espexially as it comes on it's own. Really disappointed.
Although it may have a great reputation, the food does not match the experience (or the price). You pay for the service (which is top notch) but the food is unsophisticated and does not deserve the associated price tag. I personally will not go out of my way for this restaurant. Don't believe every 5 star review you see. Great service can make modest food taste like Gordon Ramsay has cooked it. Ramsay v Perry ... like for Ramsay
